Best QR code reader android apps of 2019. Bar Codes included.

Bar codes started out on commercial products with the purpose of cataloguing them into categories. This made the manufacturers’ work easier and more organized. An automotive industry in Japan picked up on this idea and came up with something called the QR code to replace the traditional bar code. Unlike the bar codes that are arranged as a row of lines of varying width, QR codes black modules of square dots arranged in a white grid. QR codes can be used to store data that can be retrieved by scanning them. Data like URLs, payment codes, website logins, encrypted data, etc. found their way onto the QR codes. They can even be used to make purchases these days. And the most common users of QR codes are smartphones. And most common among smartphone OSes, android. So, let’s take a look at 6 of the best QR code reader android apps of 2016.

RedLaser QR & BarCode Scanner

RedLaser is one of the best QR code reader android apps out there. It can be used to scan QR codes or to make and print QR codes of URLs, contacts, messages, shopping item details, etc. But the area where it excels is shopping. Let’s say you’re at the mall and you saw something you’d like to buy, but you’re not sure if the price is right. All you have to do is scan the QR code on the product and RedLaser will find you all the info related to the product including pictures, reviews, prices across various online stores, coupon deals and a whole lot more. It even displays the best alternatives to the product if you think it’s too pricey of not worth it. The app also had a feature to store and share loyalty cards and credit cards too. BTW, this app is only for people in the USA. If you’re not in the US, you might as well look for another one.

Update [June 1 2016] :- Red laser shutted down their app in December 2015 due to some company issues and we recommend you to try the below list of bar code scanners.

ShopSavvy Barcode & QR Scanner

Shopsavvy is a highly acclaimed app on the Google Play Store with over 10 million downloads. It adopts Google’s material design UI – simple and fluid; and is made mainly for shopping, just like the redlaser app. It too, offers product details, reviews and pricing from multiple online stores and has sale alerts on any searched item. You even get notified on any new deals or offers on the product you searched for earlier. You can search products by bar code, keyword or a QR code. The app has been selected for Google Play’s Editor’s Choice, so it’s definitely a good app.

Beep’nGo – Loyalty & Coupons

Beepn’Go is another really cool shopping app with in-built Bar code and QR scanning capabilities. It has all the usual shopping features like the other two apps above. What sets it apart from the others is the fact that it has a patented technology called beaming. Beaming allows you to select a specific device(mostly Samsung flagship phones) to instantly transmit their loyalty cards, coupons, vouchers and tickets from their smartphones to all Point-of-sale scanners at retail stores around the world. So, what this means it is that you’re redeeming your gift voucher of scanning your movie ticket from your phone instead of your wallet. This feature is worth using. Besides that, everything else is pretty satisfactory. It has a decent UI, displays all the latest offers and can even display a Bar code that a scanner can scan at checkout.

For Regular Use

QR Code Reader by Scan.Inc

QR Code reader is the highest downloaded QR reader app on the Google Play store with over 50 million app downloads and it’s pretty straight-forward. You point your device at a QR code and without even the press of a button, the app scans the code and gives you the data related to the code. The UI is pretty minimal and snappy and there are no ads to irritate you. In low light conditions, you can turn on your flash to scan better and you can even scan pictures that have QR codes. The app also has a scan history to find any previously scanned code. Sadly, there is no way to make codes.

  2. Eliot says

Which one of those scanners can save scan results and search through the saved records?

    1. Suryateja says

      Hi Eliot,

Searching through the records is not an option these QR Readers provide and I guess, you have to consider some premium paid apps to make it. If you are looking for your business then we recommend you to go for a software rather than these apps.

      Have a great day ahead.
