How To Convert DSL Router To WAN Router
Any Router routes the input signal to different output signals based on the configured software. The input of routers will be of DSL, ADSL, and WAN modes, and the output of routers will be LAN ports or WIFI. So most of the routers are configured for LAN cable outputs unless you specifically made some configuration changes. Coming to the types of inputs, DSL stands for Digital Subscriber Line which is used for communication mode along with the internet. Whereas WAN stands for Wide Area Network which is used for transferring Data packets and helps in establishing Local Area Network (LAN). In simple terms, if you are taking an Internet connection from your landline connection or Mobile operator along with phone then you will be getting DSL internet connection and if you are taking the broadband connection then you will be getting WAN Connection. Can DSL Router Turn Into WAN Router? If you are using a DSL router till now and looking to get a new broadband connection that uses a WAN connection as input then I will help you out today to convert the existing DSL router to a WAN router so that you can save money on your new router. As work from home and remote working is booming across the world, getting a broadband connection is on top of needs and DSL internet connectivity doesn’t come with high-speed plans such as WAN because the DSL cable doesn’t support data packets transfer faster than 8 MBPS so, upgrade your DSL connection to WAN for better and fastest internet. How To Identify DSL Port & WAN Port?DSL port will be having 2 copper linings in the input socket of the router whereas the WAN port will be having 4 copper linings inside the port and the same as the LAN port. Also, most of the routers will be having naming on the backside near ports like WAN, LAN1, LAN2, and so on. So, we can’t convert the existing DSL port to a WAN port as the complete port structure doesn’t support the WAN. As an alternative, we can convert any one of the LAN ports to a WAN port so that it will be marked as an input port in the software and the remaining LAN ports can be used as normal. Do note that the DSL port will be left blank and it only supports the DSL cable input.
